ArtMatch
ARTMATCH
In December, 2006, the project ArtMatch was announced to fund more public art in Bend. The funds for the public art will be raised through "ArtMatch", which is a collaboration of the Celebrate Bend Foundation, Brooks Resources Corporation, Art in Public Places, and the Arts Beautification and Culture Commission.
When private or public contributions are made to the ArtMatch fund, Brooks Resources will match up to $500,000 over the next four years. The Celebrate Bend Foundation kicked off ArtMatch with a $10,000 donation. Celebrate Bend Foundation, a 501(c)3, will receive the donations and matching gifts and manage the funds, which will in turn be used to purchase art selected by Art in Public Places.
To date, $141,500 has been donated and pledged to ArtMatch. This past year, the Arts, Beautification and Culture Commission selected two site locations for the art projects. The locations must be publicly owned and accessible to the public. Based on a public input process, these site locations were identified for the placement of the donated art: (1) the downtown area and (2) in Bend roundabouts.
ArtMatch is now ready to move forward with its call to artists in the NW region to submit entries for sculpture designs. Artists from Northern California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Montana are invited to submit design entries. The first art project will be located in the roundabout at Bear Creek and 15th Street. Currently, two sculptures are installed in roundabouts on Bend's eastside, Grizzly, the bear at NE 9th and Franklin by Sherry Sandor and Might of the Workforce, the horse by Devin Field at NE 8th and Butler Market Road. Art in Public Places is responsible for managing the art selection process.
