Community Survey
2007 Community Survey
Every two years, the City of Bend conducts a community survey to gauge citizen satisfaction with city services and to gather input from residents about issues facing the community. The survey results help the City in identifying the needs of the community and in measuring citizens' attitudes and perceptions of its programs and services.
What does the city do with the results?
The results provide information for the City to prioritize allocation of city resources, and also help to shape and guide the City in the development of future operating and capital improvement budgets, as well as long-range planning.
What methodology was used?
The 2007 survey was conducted via the telephone to approximately 500 randomly selected registered voters in Bend. The City commissioned National Research Center, Inc., a full-service research firm based in Boulder Colorado, to conduct the survey. Phone calls were made from October 18 to October 26, 2007. The length of the survey averaged about 18 minutes.
Summary of Results:
Generally, ratings of quality of life were favorable in Bend and were rated similarly or above ratings given by residents of cities in the Western United States. Too much population growth, a lack of affordable housing and traffic congestion were thought to be the biggest challenges facing the City in the next three to five years. When asked to rate the quality of a list of 26 City services, emergency medical response and fire response were rated the most positive by respondents.
