COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT BUILDING DIVISION FRIENDLY, FAST, FAIR & FLEXIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! Coming Soon! Electronic Plan Review! Ever wonder if you need a permit? Want to learn the basics? click here ******See below for important notices!****** Welcome the the City of Bend's Building Division, a division of the Community Development Department. We hope this page will assist you in learning more about us. We currently have a staff of 31 highly skilled professionals which include the Building Manager/Official, Robert Mathias, an Assistant Building Official, 13 Building Inspectors, 7 Plans Examiners and 9 Support Staff. The Building Division processes approximately 6,000 permits during a calendar year. We have had a steady 20% increase in permit applications over the last four years. The valuation of these permits has also seen a steady increase from approximately $130 million in 1997 to approximately $213 million in the year 2000. With the phenomenal rise in applications, the Building Division has done an outstanding job in meeting the demands. We process the plan review of most single-family applications within two weeks. Commercial and multi-family application review timelines are critically dependent on the complexity of the building plans. However, these permits are issued in a timely manner. Once your application is processed and approved through the building plan review process, the plans will be reviewed by the Planning Division and Engineering Division. When approval is given by all other divisions, the permit will be issued and you may begin scheduling inspections from the foundation inspection to the final building inspection. Instructions are included in your permit packet regarding the process to request these inspections. Permit fees vary depending on the size of the structure. System Development Charges (SDCs) are generally a large portion of your entire permit fee. Currently, the approximate SDC fee for the fiscal year 2004/05 for a single-family dwelling is $9,663.00. These fees may vary and only when an actual application is submitted can the EXACT fees be determined. In addition to searching our web site for information, you can call our office at 388-5528 Monday through Friday 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. EFFECTIVE Beginning NEW BUILDING INSPECTION REQUIREMENTS EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1, 2007.
