BEND FIRE DEPARTMENT Mission Statement To ensure that the integrity and high standards of employment practices are maintained within the prevention division for the citizens of our community. This division also ensures that a prominent level of customer service will be given to those patrons of our service area by preventing unwanted fires and hazardous conditions through professional fire investigation, public education and abatement of fire hazards. Vision Statement During the coming decade, this division of the fire department will experience increased work volume, more demand for diverse and complex services characterized by limited resources and a trend toward service integration. Fire Prevention will continue to be a leader through public education, fire investigation and code enforcement in addition to acquiring and utilizing technology to achieve our goal in reducing injuries, death and property loss caused by fire and hazardous conditions. Operating Philosophy We believe in being helpful, reliable, open, honest, accessible, responsive and well informed. We are problem solvers who believe in teamwork and personal commitment and pay particular attention to professional image while representing our department. We have respect and appreciation for the public we serve and we are dedicated to providing a quality of life free from the destruction of fire within our community. Issues and Challenges It has become increasingly difficult to balance the growing workloads with the rapid increase of population within our jurisdiction in addition to professional development requirements, creating the potential for productivity and efficiency to decline while emergency incidents rise. As other divisions within our department, we are being regulated to do more with less, forcing staff to be more versatile and creative. This has increased the stress level for most employees, which could possibly reduce the quality of work produced of what is normally expected from the more traditional programs.
