Bend Police Department
Cadet Officer Program The Bend Police Cadets is a volunteer program of the Bend Police Department that is available to young people who are interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement. The Police Cadet Program was organized in 1975 and has proved to be a benefit, not only for the Bend Police Department, but for the community of Bend as well. Community Functions: The Bend Police Cadets assist with crowd and traffic control during special community functions such as the annual Pole, Pedal, Paddle race, Fourth of July celebration and parades. Througout the year, the cadets offer fingerprinting services for young children at various community events. They also provide bicycle safety classes for elementary school children. These bike safety classes - known as "Bike Rodeos" - are held at local elementary schools. The children are taught bicycle safety skills and rules and have the opportunity to show off their riding skills. Bike licensing is also offered during the class for those living within the City of Bend. Fundraising: Several fundraising activities are held during the year such as bottle/can drives, car washes and curb painting. The money raised from these activities is used to fund uniforms and to cover the costs associated with the Law Enforcement Challenge. The Challenge is a large competition where cadets from law enforcement agencies throughout the state compete in police-related scenarios and activities. Activities: Bend Police Cadets attend regular meetings and training. Other activities include:
