Community Survey for Strategic Planning
During the months of July and August of 2008, the Bend Police Department, with the assistance of the Performance Leadership Institute Inc., conducted a community opinion survey to assist with the department's strategic planning process.
The overall survey responses indicate the Bend Police Department enjoys a high level of support, engagement and satisfaction for its citizens. According to community survey respondents, the agency is doing an exceptional job serving the community's needs with only a few, specific areas of concern. Overall satisfaction with services provided by the Bend Police Department is at a remarkable 87% with 57% of survey respondents saying they are "very satisfied" with Bend PD services and 29% saying they are "somewhat satisfied" with Bend PD services. Using the survey as a forecasting and planning tool, it is clear respondents believe the biggest issue facing the community is drug trafficking and use and would like to see the police department focus on drug enforcement as the top priority for the coming two to three years.
The second and third priorities were listed as "maintaining a strong police presence and high visibility" and "crime prevention and education." The Bend Police Department will be using this survey along with other data to construct a plan to better serve the community in the upcoming years.
