Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act of 2004 (H.R. 218)

Firearms QualificationCurrently, the Bend Police Department will only qualify retired BPD officers.  Retired BPD officers have the opportunity to complete the DPSST Course of Fire free of charge.  Retired BPD officers must provide their own ammunition and equipment.  The qualification process will take place yearly during the month of June.  This qualification is valid for one year from the date of qualification.

The Course of Fire is a 25 round course: 

  •          Strong hand for all firing positions unless otherwise specified.
  •         Passing score = 100% - All 25 hits must be in the 5 zone of the DPSST Standard Target for Police Firearms Training.

 

I.        10 yd line - 15 seconds (3 rounds)

A.  Start at the 15 yd line, one step right or left of the fire line.

B.  On the start signal, shooter conducts an "L" movement to the cover barrel at

10 yds.

C.  Draw and fire, from cover, one round strong side, one round over the top,

and one round support side.

 

II.       7 yd line – 4 seconds

A.     On the start signal, shooter draws and fires 2 rounds.

B.     Repeat for a total of 6 rounds.

 

III.      5 yd line – 15 seconds (to fire 8 rounds, not counting the tactical reload)

A.     On the start signal, shooter draws and fires 2 rounds.

B.     Shooter takes on step right or left, out of the line of attack, and reloads for

    lock-back and fires 6 rounds.

C.     Shooter then steps back to the starting point and conducts a tactical reload.

 

IV.     3 yd line – 10 seconds

          A.  On the start signal, shooter draws and fires 3 rounds strong hand only.

          B.  Shooter then takes one step right or left while transferring the weapon to the

support hand and fires 3 rounds support hand only.

 

V.      2 yd line – 3 seconds

          A.  Shooter starts with hands encumbered.

          B.  On the start signal, shooter draws while taking one step back and fires 2

rounds.

          C.  Shooter then takes one step right or left to get out of the line of attack.
