Street Division

Welcome to the Street Division

2008 Street Overlay Schedule

The Street Division is responsible for the safe operating condition of City streets and bridges, and maintenance of catch basins and median/roundabout landscaping. The Division consists of two branches: Street Maintenance and Landscape Maintenance. Both maintenance programs include a wide variety of responsibilities.

Street Maintenance includes street overlays, legend painting, street name and traffic sign maintenance, street sweeping, snow and ice control, and storm drain maintenance.

Storm drain maintenance and street sweeping are conducted throughout the year. Street sweeping operations include removal of cinders, sweeping behind the mower, sweeping of the airport runway and other paved surfaces on site, and sweeping for Deschutes County, the State Highway Department and the Bend/La Pine School District.
During the late spring and early summer, legend painting is completed on all major arterial and collector streets.
During the hottest month each summer annual street overlays are performed. The Street Division prepares the road surface and supervises the completion of the street overlay project. During the winter months, snow removal, sanding and magnesium chloride application are primary functions of the Street Division.
Street repairs are completed as needed. Repairs include crack sealing, painting, and patching over potholes and utility cuts and around water valves and manholes.
Street and traffic signs are also repaired and replaced as needed.
A regular cleaning schedule of all catch basins is followed each year with arterials and collectors being cleaned first.

Downtown Area

The downtown area is a year round project with maintenance being provided Monday through Friday each week. Maintenance of the downtown area includes graffiti removal, repair and installation of signs, landscaping maintenance, irrigation repairs for lawn areas and trees, and maintenance and snow removal of the parking lots and underpasses during the winter months. The Street Division also maintains the numerous bridges, footbridges and underpass walkways within the City.

The Street Division is also responsible for downtown holiday decorations and the yearly Christmas tree ceremony preparations.
