Bend accommodates and encourages multiple transportation modes and the City is actively working to facilitate safe travel for all users. Single-lane roundabouts are one outcome of the City's work to safely accommodate all users, and the community has become adept at applying and using this intersection form. Bend's single-lane roundabouts continue to demonstrate the operational and safety benefits for which they were originally constructed.
In a continued effort to look for ways to facilitate safe travel at intersections with greater traffic volumes, the City has explored and evaluated the use of multilane roundabouts. At multilane roundabouts, City staff apply the same design principles that have made single-lane roundabouts successful. In July 2008, the City opened its first multilane roundabout.
